ARE YOU SUCCESSFUL?
At the end of your life, when you stand before God, what will stand with you?
Looking back over the course of your decisions, what will still matter?
Do the commitments you hold today still have weight in face of eternity?
I don't know about you but I want to be successful! I want to get to the end of my life and find that I made a difference with the short time I had.
Yet amidst my hunger for greatness I also often find a corrupted view of what winning really means.
So... what does it mean to succeed in life?
What is your definition of success? And is that really what it means to be successful in life?
Recently this topic has come up for me from multiple sources and a specific quote from the Christian artist, Lecrae, really stuck out to me. He said that, "Success isn't what you've done compared to others. Success is what you've done compared to what you were made to do."
This quote has shook me in a good way and redefined once agin the perspective that I'm viewing life through. In the end my obedience is what matters most.
This quote also got me thinking as a team about living life fully ALIVE. That we as unique followers of Jesus have specific adventures to pursue while at the same time holding to the tension of following the broad calling to love God, love people, and make disciples.
SO...HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING OUT WHO YOU WERE CREATED TO BE?
Have you let your dreams die?
Why are you waiting to step into what God has ALREADY called you to do?
Have you been intentional about taking time to check in with the Lord about your purpose?
Below are 5 questions that I hope will help you dig deeper into what God has called you to at this time.
1. HOW ARE YOU MOVED TO LOVE THE WORLD?
In what ways are you passionate about showing people love? Have you been hiding your affection and ability to honor people? Have you been afraid to be rejected? If you were the most loving person you could ever be, what would that look like? What is holding you back from living like that? You are the light of the world. Go take a risk and love somebody.
2. WHAT BREAKS YOUR HEART?
What do you hate about your city? Not in a negative complaining way but in a way that drives you to ant to do something about it? What about your family do you wish wasn't the way it is? What do you wish that people could understand and run with? Maybe the thing that bothers you is the very thing that you are called to change?
3. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE CAN'T BE DONE, BUT IF IT COULD WOULD CHANGE THE WORLD?
Often times we don't live the bold lives we are called to because we think failure will overtake us. Yet failure is often the stepping stone into your success. So if you weren't afraid to fail anymore, what would you be doing? What could you do that no one else is doing and in doing so it would change the game?
4. WHAT SEEMS TO KEEP BEING BROUGHT TO YOUR ATTENTION?
Often times when the Lord is speaking to me He will confirm it from multiple different places. What topics just seem to keep being brought up around you? What seems to keep following you? What do people always seem to talk with you about? Maybe the Lord is trying to get your attention?
5. WHAT "WORD" HAS HE LORED SHARED WITH YOU THAT YOU FORGOT?
Often times I can get distracted with where I'm going by not remembering where I've been. Part of who I am today is because of where I've been yesterday. What did the Lord say about you or say to you in the past? Have you forgot that He spoke this over you? Have you become distracted? Have other voices become to loud in your life?
